Languages and International Blog

Welcome to our Languages and International Blog. At Bridgewater, we have chosen Spanish as the language we teach, as it is widely spoken. This is taught to all children in years 3 to 6 by Mrs D'Agostini. We engage the children through playing games, singing songs and stories as well as developing their grasp of grammar and the written language. Please celebrate the children’s learning with us by commenting on the blog posts below. ¡Hasta luego!

We have been accredited with the International School Award (ISA) 2022-2025 in recognition of our international focus. We were praised by the British Council for our commitment to embedding a rich and creative range of international work.

Cinco de Mayo

Cinco de Mayo is a yearly celebration that occurs on 5th May and remembers Mexico defeating the French Empire in 1862.  As Mexicans have migrated across the globe, it is now celebrated across many countries.  At Bridgewater in Year 5, we focused on two great Mexican exports - Mariachi music and food.  A few of our

Language Ambassadors prepared some simple nachos over lunchtime and the whole year group then enjoyed them with melted cheese, guacamole and spicy salsa.  The children were very adventurous in trying the food.

Spanish - Year 1

It was a pleasure to revisit Year 1 and share some Spanish with them.  Their enthusiasm was infectious as we learnt how to say, "Feliz Pascua" - Happy Easter and also practised Spanish numbers through a song counting rabbits.  The children confidently volunteered to, "be the teacher" as they shared their knowledge with the rest of the class.
